Eric’s been doing a massive job coordinating national efforts, so be sure to check out his site: http://taxdayteaparty.com. But since this site is dedicated to the DC effort (and helping out however we can with other efforts as well), we’re pleased to tell you we just got the permit to hold our tea party in front of the Treasury, on April 15th, from noon to 2. We’ll even have a stage and a sound system — weather pending. Stay tuned.

He introduced an alternative to the reparations for slavery, and this alternative would eventually be for every American, not just the ancestors of slavery. He believes that the federal income tax is unconstitutional and no one should pay it. I would think Brian that that would make you happy, unless you are an imposter. What, is because he is against abortions? Do you think that he is a homophob? You know that his daughter is a lesbian, right? He still loves her. Yes, Keyes stated that his goal was to “ultimately replace” the income tax for all Americans. But in the article I’ve linked to, he also makes it abundantly clear that he “supports in principle” reparations specifically for blacks to address “the legacy of material disadvantage that continues today among African-Americans of slave heritage.” These are direct quotes from Keyes himself, so I’m not sure how you conclude that my information is false.
You are in no position whatsoever to question my “conservative sensibilities,” especially based on my original post which said nothing of abortion, homosexual “marriage,” or sanctions against South Africa. I won’t even bother trying to convince you one way or the other. You’ve created a straw man argument.
What I will tell you, and anyone else who cares to face reality, is that any attempt to hijack the seething anger that currently exists against the government and claim it as part of some neoconservative, multicultural diversity effort will utterly destroy the movement. You would be wise to consider the demographics of Obama’s voters, as well as those of current opinion polls regarding the first few months of his presidency (hint: there’s a definite commonality among those who love him.)
Trying to thwart the inevitable accusations of racism against the Tea Party Movement by giving a platform to a thoroughly discredited and token minority speaker like Alan Keyes (or Michael Steele, or Bobby Jindal – take note, GOP) is insane. We need to stop playing by the left’s rules (i.e. “we only oppose the ILLEGAL invasion by Third-World aliens…the LEGAL invasion is just fine with us”) because we’re afraid of being called racists. If any of the 5% of blacks who didn’t vote for Obama want to join the Tea Party Movement, then let’s welcome them. But they’ll have to leave the reparations talk and racial grievance rhetoric at home, because most of us have had about enough of that crap as we have had of excessive taxation and unconstitutional expansion of government.
In other words, this ain’t Sean Hannity’s movement, no matter how much he thinks it is. And if you care to dismiss me as some sheet-wearing racist, that’s certainly your prerogative. But demography is destiny, and we ignore that truth at our peril. Right now the demographic trends aren’t on the side of liberty, small government, or scaled-back taxation. I see the trolls are here already. Has anyone else gotten a bogus e–mail today? I got one trying to scam cell phone numbers from tea party “organizers”. As I’m not an organizer, this one was obvious to me, but just wanted to let everyone know that if you get this e–mail, it’s not legitimate. It’s someone trying to make trouble. It looks like this e-mail (and probably others like it) are out there trying to get your personal information.
Better watch out you might have to actually stand up and be counted. I know you loser tea fags like to stay anonymous but just ugly faces in a crowd won’t do it.

The only way our governments collects taxes is when we become the end user of products and services.
Just under the radar, states and federal government want to create a new tax revenue stream. They want, along with some big business interest, to tax CO2 emission. If enacted, this tax will cost us consumers between 1.9 trillion to 3 trillion dolllars per year. This is one leg of Obama’s plan to pay for 10 trillion dollars budget and bailouts. (We tax payers will never see a dime of AIG bailout money.)

A few days ago 2000 people at a tea party in Pitt enjoyed the benefit of getting to hear the rock-ribbed conservative analysis of the current crisis of drunken-sailor type spending from the socialists that the citizens of this country have chosen to send to DC.
LoyalToLiberty.com has the video posted of the talk that Dr. Keyes gave to this audience just in case the phoney GOP-kool-aid-drinking bunch would like to critique his analysis.

Sorry to say we showed up in Sacramento to a much less than expected crowd, nothing going on, no orginization. Waste of a two hour drive. We would been better off staying home and writing letters to our Congressmen and women.

Where have these people been for the last eight years? For eight years we have had an administration that paid virtually no attention to the economy. The President started an unnecessary war in Iraq at the same time he was cutting taxes for the rich in this country. The end result is that we went from budget surpluses to a huge deficit. Now when we have a President who is busting his butt to try and clean up after the mess, suddenly we have all of these people storming the streets, complaining about unfair taxation and irresponsible government. I say it again. Where have you people been for eight years?

The economy was just fine until your holiest Pelosi became speaker of the house and forced Bush back against the wall. She threaten any hopes of having any of his policies passed Congress unless he did her bidding. After all, she had control of a democratic Congress. The last two years of his Presidency was contolled by democrats. Those ridiculous tax refunds were forced by Pelosi. The over spending was forced by the democrats for their pet projects. You know people claim that they are patriotic and they want to be kept safe while keeping their freedom. Unfortunately that freedom comes at a price. This tea party BS is nothing more then a mockery of an important historical event. Furthermore the only people protecting freedom are the soldiers of this country. The men and women who come back and find that they can’t find a job. This country has forgotten about customer service. Companies and entrepreneurs have decided to produce lesser products and services while charging ridiculous prices in order to get rich quick. That is the real reason we are all in this mess. This is not patriotism or the American dream that some people claim it is. This is nothing more then greed. You want to be free? then this country has to pay for it on a whole and if lower class and the poor can not pay( which any moron would know that if they can get jobs then they can’t pay, and don’t give me that “they are just lazy crap”) then the rest of the country either has to step up and do it. It is either that or just let the U.S.A. be come another third world country. Funny though I see many people protesting this now when they should have been protesting years ago to prevent this.
truth&justice, I agree with you on two things, that freedom comes at a price and that the soldiers help protect our freedoms. However, you have misconstrued the price of freedom. It is a metaphor. In order for the people to remain free, then there may be a cost in life and quality of life to protect the Constitution. That wonderful document protects our GOD given INDIVIDUAL rights, not GROUP rights. I am not my brother’s keeper. GOD gave us free will to choose how we wish to live. If I wish to give a hand up to my brother, then that is my choice. I should not be forced by the government to do so. Jesus Christ said that if you GIVE your brother fish, then he shall eat for a day. If you teach your brother to fish, then he shall be able to eat for a lifetime. Unfortunately, most of our citizens prefer not to improve their lives through an education; so then complain when they can’t win that high paying job. They have to much pride to take that lesser job, so they choose to be unemployed and complain that they can’t find a job. They are jobs to be had, if you are willing. Some of those jobs lead to something better. An insightful forefather (BF) once stated, in so many words, that if one is willing to give up their freedoms for a sense of security, then they themselves do not deserve the security. In other words; shut up or put up!
I don’t get the point of this protest. I’ve been surfing all over the web, and have seen lots of stuff about the numbers of protesters at the various events. But I have yet to find anything that lays out the SPECIFIC POINTS of the protest.
Yes, I have read the vague descriptor: “a coalition of citizens and organizations concerned about the recent trend of fiscal recklessness in government.” But this isn’t very informative. Which acts of recklessness are they protesting? There have been so many over the past 25-plus years. And how “recent” are they talking? They couldn’t be suggesting that Obama created our problems in the 3 short months he’s been in office??
Personally, I have been extremely concerned for years about the fiscal recklessness of our CORPORATIONS. To me, they are the primary culprits. They’ve actually become the de facto government of this country. And this is not a partisan criticism at all. Yes, I believe Reagan started us down this road by dismantling regulations, allowing CEOs to slash jobs and employee benefits while posting record profits and taking huge bonuses for themselves. But Clinton’s Congress allowed our corporations to play even faster and looser — in 1999, for instance, they repealed a law that forced commercial banks to invest the money from our personal savings accounts wisely and conservatively. The Bush administration simply seemed to be emboldened by all that went before it, and pushed legislation that enabled corporate (and individual) greed to an unprecedented degree.
Everyday Americans have been losing ground for many years. We now work longer and make less (both in adjusted salary and benefits) than we did 30 years ago. We have virtually no job security (we can get laid off even when our work has been exemplary). Our retirement savings and investments have been played with as if they were Monopoly money (read the book FIASCO, by Frank Partnoy). Our tax dollars have been poured into Iraq and given to the very rich in the form of tax breaks, resulting in a record national deficit (which existed BEFORE this recent economic meltdown, please remember).
So exactly WHO and WHAT is this “movement” protesting, please? Just lay it out.
Going to DC for the rally? I went in September. Here are some tips:
No car needed- stay within walking distance of a metro stop on the BLUE or ORANGE lines. They take you right downtown where the rallies are. I flew into BWI on Southwest, took the shuttle to the Greenbelt Metro line and on to my hotel. Very easy!
